As an internet marketer, you have to look for ways in which you can drive traffic to your website or your offers. This  feel you should constantly do, but if you can even get FREE Traffic to your website or offers, even better.

I have recently discovered that one such way that is working incredibly for me is to use You Tube Video. I am sure you would have heard so much about how the search engines love videos etc. But the way I use video, especially you tube videos is completely different.

Here is what you do…

First thing you do is find a video on youtube that has received lots of views. I am not talking a couple hundred views. I am talking from 50,000 views and above.

The ones I usually select are videos that have received lots of views and is owned by someone who does not have any idea of internet marketing.

You can easily see this from the video if it has a link to a particular website or offer link. if it does not, then even better.

What you then do is to send the owner of the video a small email letting them know that you are interested in placing your link on their video of course for a small fee. This you can easily do by negotiating this with them. Most times I offer to pay around USD$300 to USD$500 to place this link on their videos. I do this because I know that within a few minutes I will be recouping those funds back from my website or from the offers which I am promoting through my own affiliate link.

So once all has been agreed and your link is placed on this video, you start to get loads of visitors from this video.

As you can see, this is completely different from posting a video online and hoping it receives enough views to it.

Affiliate Marketing and Why I love affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing is a hobby to me. I started it a year and a half ago and have just researched and learned (may I add learned so much). When I started affiliate marketing back in August of 2008, I had no clue as to what I was doing. I opened a clickbank account and just didn’t know what to do with it. LOL. so I opened my clickbank ad and just googled search free ways to submit links and I did that. I made no sales but I would check my clickbank account day after day to see if my one little link submission made a sale. I laugh at myself today. I had no clue. The only thing that I did have a clue about is that there were people out there making mad money from Affiliate Marketing and I am just determined to be one of them because I know it can be done.

Pretty much, most of the stuff I know today, I self taught myself by signing up for a bunch of free newsletters etc and learned and built from there. I remember the first time I made a clickbank sale. (November, 2008) I was so frustrated with the whole internet affiliate marketing concept that I was ready to quit. I logged onto clickbank and I saw I made a commission of $24.36 and I was so excited. That is what I call my incentive sale that kept me going at affiliate marketing. I knew from that one little commission that it was possible to make money, I just had to learn what to do.

I never really believed in buying the ebooks because I spent $47 on one and it was total crap and did nothing to help me so I just started google searching everything. One day, I ran into a forum that talked about Pot Pie Girl so I started following her. She started affiliate marketing back in February 2008 and makes almost $200,000 a year now. I was practically a Pot Pie Girl stalker LOL. That forum changed my life. I have learned so much alone from Pot Pie Girl (of course, I have used other research methods as well) but Pot Pie Girl rocks and still to this day, she emails me free tutorials all the time. I just love her. She taught me how to make a plan and stick to it.

I started building campaigns as she taught me. I started article marketing, building squidoo lens, making blogs, using usfreeads, placing classifieds etc. I learned there were so many venues to make money. I stopped concentrated on making thousands overnight and concentrated on learning and than I became to enjoy it so much. It is my biggest hobby and guess what, each month, my sales are increasing.

I know I still have alot to learn but each month gets better. This month alone and it is the 13th of the month, I made 22 sales. Not great, but again, I am still learning

My biggest lesson that I learned is the importance of having a plan when it comes to affiliate marketing. It is like a routine. You do certain things on a consistent basis and you build passive, residual income. It is that easy. You wont make money quick but you will build a lifetime income.

My passion for Customer Service started young. In my late teens, I dropped out of university (I got my degree and moved on to a MBA later) and ended up ‘flipping burgers’ at McDonald’s. It wasn’t the first job like that I had done, but it was the first where I could see first hand the impact I could have on the bottom line by having conversations with customers that built relationships. I rose quickly through the ranks with that company, and learned to appreciate the business model that has made the company so successful. I then had ten years with a Virgin group company, where I worked at a senior level on engagement, customer service strategy and also pioneered Twitter in the industry.

What has changed about customer service?

Well, I think the basics haven’t changed. It’s still about the conversations we have. It’s where we have them that has changed. Time is our most precious commodity, and that in part is responsible for the rapid technological changes we have seen in the last ten years. So is globalization which has led to increased competition.

Competition has made differentiation vital. It’s important that you stand for something different. Why? Because your customers are less loyal to your brand than ever before. Consumers today are more savvy.

The growth in the use of Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and other social media has presented a huge challenge for companies. Suddenly all those conversations people had in private suddenly became public.

The World is now Online.

Marketeers were the first to notice the opportunities online for their brands. There have been some brilliant viral video social media marketing campaigns. Once of my all time favourites was created to encourage people in Sweden to buy a TV License. An amazingly engaging solution to a fairly mundane issue.

The thing is, the low barriers to entry in social media mean that anyone can potentially reach millions of consumers in a way that in the past only companies with big budgets could. The web has become a brilliant leveler. It has democratized self expression. Companies are no longer in control of their message. There has been a massive power shift back to the customer.

If you make a mistake using social media then it’s in public. Everyone sees it. Often, it is a small but ethically ‘grey’ decision that causes the biggest tidal wave of ‘social media mania’. Journalists use social media for stories and as a result your mistake can often end up in a broadsheet on breakfast tables the following morning.

This isn’t all bad though; whilst they won’t admit it, lots of account managers and marketing directors are quietly thanking their lucky stars that someone else made the mistake before they did. It’s a fairly new game and many are still learning the rules of engagement.

Did you know that brand loyalty is lowest among Generation Y? So if your target market is anyone aged 16 – 31 to them you had better have something else up your sleeve. This Generation respond to the Truth.

By all means spend £x (insert your own figure here) on big flashy marketing campaigns if you want to but be warned that a big chunk of your target market won’t buy it (ask Pepsi). They definitely won’t buy it if your marketing doesn’t reflect the actual experience of using the product or service.

People, myself included, have often talked about brands ‘no longer in control of the message’ i.e. their brands are being commented on and talked about online all the time. Were we ever actually in control of the message? Maybe we could just influence it. Difference is, the conversation has moved online and so that’s where we must influence.

The Evolving Organisation

Customer Service (and internal communications) is something lots of people in the business are involved in. A single person is not in control of the output. If you are a service organisation (and I challenge you to show me a business that isn’t) chances are most of your £spend goes on payroll for your customer service people. Your people are hired to have conversations, build relationships and help the business remain resilient.

If it is done well, Customer Service is linked to SHRM. The people who are recruited are part of a wider strategy that should link the internal or employee brand with behaviour, training, development, performance management and remuneration. It’s all part of a complex system. Senior people in companies spend a great deal of their time making sure everything ‘fits’ together so their offering is consistent, measurable and contributes to increasing the value of their proposition.

The growth of social media means a massive opportunity to differentiate on a much more strategic level. This can be on a corporate level, business unit level or on an operational level.

As well as working with companies on their social media and online marketing strategies, I’m currently exploring how we can rewrite the business school models to reflect a more responsive, democratic and flatter business structure.

What ever social media people will be using in two years time, whether it’s Twitter, Facebook, Google Buzz or something else, we can be sure that the world won’t go back to the way it was.
